SiC Athens is delighted to invite you for “Not A Love Song”, a solo exhibition by Stathis Yapoutzidis-Karras, on view from September 20 to October 18, 2025.
This exhibition marks a new chapter in Yapoutzidis-Karras’ artistic journey, presenting a multimedia installation that interlaces sound, memory and cultural ritual to create a visceral and introspective environment within SiC’s gallery space in Thiseio.
At the heart of the exhibition lies the figure of a man in transformation. His suffering expressed simultaneously as performance and prayer. Through this work, the artist explores solitude, vulnerability, and the cultural sanctuaries built around music and myth. The installation references the intensity of a moshpit, where pain and belief collide, and pays tribute to the cult-like dimensions of rock ‘n’ roll culture.
“Not A Love Song” unfolds as a process of imitation and devotion, where music while deeply fulfilling, remains elusive in granting full control. The work reveals a journey marked by nostalgia, inner conflicts, temptations, and the tension between past, present, and future.
About the Artist
Stathis Yapoutzidis-Karras (b. 1993, Thessaloniki) works across sculpture, installation, and sound. His practice navigates the intersections of personal experience, collective memory, myth, and symbolism, crafting immersive environments that engage both intimate and social dimensions of human behavior.
Alongside his visual work, Yapoutzidis-Karras has experimented with sound and performance, notably through the garage-hardcore punk band PISSTONS (2011–2018). He lives and works between Greece and the Netherlands, with exhibitions presented in Greece, Italy, and the Netherlands.
